Restructuring organisations
Simulation workshop.
Bristol – tbd
When considering organisational change, such as restructuring, we believe that attending to the relationships between individuals is as important as the individuals themselves. Once strong and robust relationships exist that can withstand the effects of change, then the possibilities for real change begin to take on new and exciting proportions.
We’ve developed a simulation tool that helps teams and organisations understand the ways in which culture develops and how this can be valuable information for restructuring activities. Participants in these workshops are able to explore the culture of their own and other organisations in a safe and experimental way.
By focusing on a fictional situation they are able to use the simulation as a metaphor through which to consider the various facets of their own culture and the impact of change. While the simulation is only fictional, the personal responses evoked through it are usually very real. Consequentially, you can extract powerful learnings from the experience that can be applied to your current workplace situations where culture needs to be accounted for in order to achieve change successfully.
Outline:
A fictitious merger is performed between two groups. Participants learn how they and others react under such circumstances and are encouraged to step back and reflect on new ways to approach culture changes within their own organisation.
The first part of the day will compromise the experiential introduction of some appropriate models, including:
- uncovering and adjusting beliefs about change
- building better relationships with those impacted by change
- understanding current and desired cultures
- handling resistance to change.
Participants are then divided into small groups and required to develop a model, rules and values by which they would live if stranded on a desert island together. Various events occur between the set of islands that simulate real-life culture changes. Each of these events is debriefed in turn so that participants can map learnings onto their own experiences and organisations.
Recent feedback:
“Excellent course covering relevant areas and providing very useful guidance for self-analysis and improving skills that can be put into practise immediately on return to workplace.” (Manager, Bath & North East Somerset Council)
